Produced in Albuquerque, NM, this coffee is a unique blend of the world's finest organically grown high-altitude Arabica coffee beans. The beans are slow roasted by hand in an antique Royal #5 roaster, an exact replica of the original 1890 version. It has no gauges, gadgets or high-tech components. Husband and wife team Jim and Francesca painstakingly handcraft one small batch of Piñon Coffee at a time. Their process requires constant attention in order to ensure the correct roast for each batch.
If green chile is dear to the hearts and stomachs of all New Mexicans, the Piñon is dear to their souls. This beautiful tree is a thread in the social fabric of all who have shared the high desert area. Her nutritious fruit, the Piñon nut, has sustained life in all forms throughout the Colorado Plateau for centuries. She rests in groves among her Juniper tree cousins. Many know of her but few really know her beauty, magic, spiritual significance and allure. A staple crop of Native American Indians for thousands of years, over 90% of Francesca and Jim's Piñon is supplied by local Indian gatherers. The coffee is Fair Trade and Shade Grown.
This coffee is refreshingly different in flavor and aroma. It is also quite healthful because Piñon nuts supply all amino acids, but contain no cholesterol and provide significant amounts of Vitamin A, Thiamine, Riboflavin, and Niacin.
